I was reading through all the different modiem effects today and was a bit about trait modiems. From what I was reading they tend to grant a trait to a foal in addition to those the foal already has a chance of inheriting. Could you use one to guarantee that a trait from the parent gets passed down to the foal or does it have to be a new trait?

On that note are there any items that increase or reduce the chance of a foal inheriting a specific trait from the parents?

It doesn't have to be a new trait, it could be one of the parent's traits as long as you have enough modiems for the trait's rarity!

There isn't an item that changes the chance of trait inheritance, but one of the jobs (Guard) increases the chances of a foal inheriting traits from that parent
